The Boys’ Brigade (BB) is a Christian youth organization working with boys and young men aged 4—18 years all across the world.
The 1st Connor Company meets on Monday evenings from September to April in Connor Presbyterian Church halls.
- Anchor Boys (P1—P4) 7.00pm—8.00pm
- Junior Section (P5—P7) 7.00pm—8.00pm
- Company Section (Year 8—age 18) 7.30pm—9.45pm
What happens at BB?
In the Anchors Boys and Junior Section, a typical night might include a Bible story, crafts or cooking, and some fun team games.
An evening in the Company Section usually consists of a brief Bible lesson, uniform inspection, drill, badgework (to include Skills and Community components), and sports (such as football, unihoc, basketball, and more).
Boys in all sections will enjoy occasional trips out.
The BB provides an excellent environment for boys to socialize with others. We wear uniform so that boys, while individuals, feel a sense of belonging. Working towards badges develops skills and instills a sense of achievement.
The object of the BB is the advancement of Christ’s kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.

Where have we come from?
The Boys’ Brigade was founded by Sir W. A. Smith in Glasgow in 1883 and was the first uniformed youth organization in history. It spread to Ireland in 1888.
The 1st Connor Company was founded in 1945; the first Captain was Rev. H. M. McNeilly. Although at that stage only a few boys were interested in joining, the Company was built up with assistance from the Officers of the 3rd Ballymena Company (Harryville Presbyterian Church). The first Display took place on Friday, 18th April, 1947. In 1995 we celebrated our 50th anniversary with a weekend of special events. The eighth and incumbent Captain is D. Murdoch. We are looking forward to our 75th anniversary in 2020.
